A brief history of Yorkshire tea
The world-famous tea company, Taylors, was established in Yorkshire by Charles Taylor. He made it his mission to source blends of tea that would taste best when combined with the local hard water supply.
1962
Taylors merged with local tearoom competitor, Betty’s, and together they purchased the highest quality beans and leaves from across the globe including places like India and Sri Lanka.
The famous tea brand Yorkshire Tea was created by Taylors. Originally it offered different blends of tea to Yorkshire people, to cater to the varied hardness of their water. But the brand soon went national!
Yorkshire Tea became the number one selling brand of tea in the UK, overtaking PG Tips and Tetley. It is thought that over 10 million cups of it are drank every day by people across Britain. Pop the kettle on!
